Haseleu Takes Home Top Honors at MIS

By John Wells
July 15, 2005; Oregon, WI - Nathan Haseleu, Jeremy Spoonmore, and Jay Kalbus claimed top honors at Madison International Speedway as part of Budweiser Night at the Races. For Haseleu it was his fourth victory in the 2005 Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Model Series while Jeremy Spoonmore won the second round of the Mid American Triple Crown Series and Jay Kalbus picked up his first win in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman.

“It was an awesome race,” said Pardeeville’s Nathan Haseleu who took home top honors in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Model division. As a result of his victory, Haseleu now sits on top of the season point standings for the division.

Twenty-two Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models took the green flag in their forty lap feature with Mineral Point’s Jeff Watters jumping out to the lead. A front stretch incident on lap five brought out the first caution flag.

On the restart Necedah’s Travis Sauter moved up to challenge Watters for the lead only to spin on the backstretch while trying to pass the leader thus bringing out the race’s second caution.

Wasting no time moving up through the field was Pardeeville’s Nathan Haseleu who by lap six was all the way up to second from his ninth starting position when the caution came out once again for a car in the wall in turn one.

Two laps later Haseleu made his move and overtook Watters on the inside for the lead with Beloit’s Ryan Hanson also getting by Watters.

Despite a series of caution flags for spins, Haseleu was able to maintain his edge over Hanson and Watters. On lap 26 Rockford’s Dan Lensing passed Watters for the third spot with Haseleu and Hanson increasing their lead over the field.

Lap 29 brought on yet another caution for a spin in turn two and brought the field together for yet another restart. After going to the rear of the field for a spin earlier in the race, Sauter was back up to fourth place by lap 30 and on lap 35 passed Lensing for third.

Meanwhile Haseleu was simply too strong for Hanson as he increased his lead by six car lengths. On lap 39 Sauter moved by Hanson for second but wouldn’t have enough time to catch Haseleu who came home with his fourth victory of the season. Following Haseleu at the finish line were Sauter, Hanson, Lensing, and Watters.

Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville set fast time with a lap of 18.453 or 97.545 mph. Heat races were won by John Wood of Madison, Hanson, and Chad Stevens of Orfordville. Brandon Waelti of Sun Prairie was victorious in the semi-feature.

Haseleu leads the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Model points race with a six point advantage over Wilberg. Rounding out the top five are Hintzsche, Sauter, and Hanson.
